Ryan Pfeiffer grew up in Ottawa, Ontario and decided to pursue a career in photojournalism while studying industrial design at Carleton University. His interest in photography was fueled by the work he did at after-hours parties and during his travels. He left design to study photojournalism at Loyalist College in Belleville and graduated with distinction in 2005
After graduating Ryan did a summer internship at the Windsor
Star and then spent eight months at sea taking pictures for Princess Cruises.
He was offered his first full time newspaper position in 2006 at the Standard-Freeholder in Cornwall where he took pictures and wrote stories. After 16-months in Cornwall
he was offered a job at the Guelph Mercury where he worked until March 2009
when he was laid-off. At the Mercury Ryan took pictures for the paper and produced
multimedia for the web.
In November 2009 Ryan took a job with the Durham Region Media Group producing images and multimedia for papers based in Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Oshawa and Clarington.
